Poison Control Centers offer a wide variety of toxicology resources, including a computerized database of some 750,000 substances maintained by Micromedex. Inc. Staff members are trained to resolve toxic / poison situations in the home of the caller. Hospital referrals are given in some instances. The centers also offer a wide range of educational services to both the public and health care professionals. The Poison Control Centers are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help callers.
